Just Breathe Adaptive is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization located in Utah County. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities in outdoor recreation through participation and certification in adaptive scuba diving and providing access to education and resources to help participants navigate the complexities of accessible travel in the US and abroad.
Our team consists of highly trained Diveheart® Adaptive Scuba Instructors and Adaptive Dive Buddies who are committed to providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities to scuba dive safely and confidently. But, the most important members of our team are our DIVERS!
At Just Breathe Adaptive, we recognize that supporting the health and wellness of children and youth with disabilities strengthens the foundation of our society and does more to promote inclusivity, empathy, and social change than any other effort. All Just Breathe Adaptive programs seek to address the unique needs of children and youth with disabilities and their families.
We have teamed up with two nonprofits, Diveheart and IMURS to provide our participants with the best possible experience and safety standards. For more information check out www.diveheart.org and www.imurs.org.
Just Breathe Adaptive uses the Diveheart® Adaptive Diver curriculum that caters to individuals with diverse disabilities, ensuring they can safely and comfortably enjoy the underwater experience. Divers participate in a comprehensive curriculum which resolves around planning and diving with a team.
In addition to training new adaptive divers, at Just Breathe Adaptive, we are committed to filling the industry with well trained Diveheart® Adaptive Dive Buddies and Adaptive Scuba Instructors to better serve individuals with disabilities, helping to create a scuba diving and travel industry that is more inclusive, accommodating, and responsive to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Just Breathe Adaptive is developing an online media hub, which includes educational tools to help our divers plan, fund and reach adaptive scuba travel goals. Our divers and their families will be equipped with knowledge and resources to plan and enjoy safe accessible scuba-related and non-scuba-related travel experiences.
Just Breathe Adaptive facilitates and organizes accessible scuba-related travel opportunities to promote inclusion of the adaptive diver in travel recreation activities. We treasure the long lasting relationships and community networks we have developed through repeat travel experiences.
Just Breathe Adaptive seeks to introduce individuals with disabilities to well-documented health benefits of recreation in blue and green spaces. Long term our divers and their families experience improvement in overall mental and physical health through increased participation in outdoor recreation activities.
Just Breathe Adaptive has helped establish a strong, supportive community of individuals with disabilities and allies who share their experiences and offer guidance. Our database of certified Adaptive Dive Instructors and Adaptive Dive Buddies throughout the world adds to this community.
Just Breathe Adaptive advocates for policy changes and improved accessibility standards in the scuba diving and travel industries, promoting equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Wide Open Doors is an online resource for individuals with disabilities to access information regarding accessibility of resorts worldwide. Travelers with disabilities will be able to accurately evaluate potential destinations and compare options to their personal needs and preferences.
Our divers often come from underfunded situations and need your help. Diveheart® adaptive diver certification costs approximately $1200 per diver. Your donations help us cover hard costs associated with diver certification. We rely largely on volunteer instructor time.
Every adaptive diver requires a minimum of TWO adaptive dive buddies. Support our divers by making sure we have adequate buddies in our program and in the community to keep our divers diving. Adaptive Dive Buddy Training uses the Diveheart® curriculum
We regularly hold free community "Try Scuba" events. The costs of these events include scuba rental fees, facility fees, insurance, document fees etc. Sponsor an event with us and come join in the fun.
Our divers often need extra funding to navigate the complexities and costs of accessible travel both in the US and abroad. Your donations can help overcome extra travel costs associated with adaptive diving and accessible travel.
