Email us to discuss your family's specific needs
To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, Just Breathe requires that travelers needing hands-on personal care, whether for hygiene, medical, or other personal support, bring a dedicated Personal Care Provider. For safety reasons, this care provider cannot also serve as a dive buddy during the trip.
Arranging for and securing the Personal Care Provider is the responsibility of the traveler. Just Breathe will assist with resources and support if possible. Deposits are required both for the traveler and their Personal Care Provider.
Personal Care Includes:

1. You are interested in scuba certification but would like to participate in a Try Adaptive Scuba Experience first.
This is not mandatory, but it’s a great way to make sure you want to move forward.
We have two formats of Try Adaptive Scuba Experiences:
Please contact Robin Knight for more information and scheduling options:
Email: robin.knight@justbreatheadaptive.org
Phone: 801-473-4348
One of our commitments is “Everyone’s first try is free.” While we always love donations and sometimes have sponsors for these events, you will not be asked to pay for a Try Adaptive Scuba Experience.
2. You are previously certified as an open water diver and have had a change in health or physical ability and are interested in transitioning to a Diveheart Adaptive Scuba Diver certification, or are just interested in getting back in the water to see if you need an adaptive certification.
Please contact Robin Knight at:
Email: robin.knight@justbreatheadaptive.org
Phone: 801-473-4348
3. You have participated in a Try Adaptive Scuba Experience and are ready to move forward with certification.
The following information outlines this process:
a. Paperwork:
If you have not already completed our paperwork, this can be found at www.justbreatheadaptive.org under “Forms.” You will want to complete the “Adaptive Diver Forms.”
Please note: One of these forms is a “Diver Medical.” It requires a physician signature. Please answer the questions on this form to the best of your ability, complete all signatures, and submit the form. Once submitted, you will receive a PDF of the medical form which can be taken to a physician for signature. We need this signature from your physician before we proceed with any further training in the pool or open water.
b. Academic learning
All students begin with the same academic learning expectations. The academic learning is done as elearning from SDI or PADI. If there is a disability that precludes completing the elearning, we transition to an adaptive diver certification and will discuss other options for academic learning.
c. Confined water training
All students begin with the same list of skills to learn and master in a pool setting. At any point, if a student encounters a skill that cannot be completed independently because of a disability, we transition to a Diveheart Adaptive Diver certification and learn to complete skills with an Adaptive Dive Team rather than independently. Confined water training usually consists of 2–4 pool sessions but can vary widely based on ability and tolerance. Open water students will complete training in small groups. Adaptive Divers usually complete training privately with an Adaptive Scuba Instructor and Adaptive Dive Buddy.
d. Open water training
Open water students and Adaptive Scuba Diver students continue with open water training at the Crater in Midway. We complete 4 dives over 2 different days at the Crater to refine buoyancy and practice a few of the skills learned in the pool. Adaptive Divers continue to train with an Adaptive Dive Team including an adaptive dive buddy.
4. How much does this cost?
Our goal at Just Breathe Adaptive Scuba is to get as many divers in the water as possible regardless of financial ability to contribute. However, there are hard costs associated with training and if a participant is able to contribute to the cost of their training, we happily accept donations.
We suggest a donation of $500–600 to cover training costs but will accept whatever our participants can contribute. This is regardless of the format of training. We do not “charge” more because someone has different needs.
We know there are a lot more questions, but these are the basics. Please contact us for more information specific to your individual situation. We would love to talk to you and figure out how to make scuba certification work for you within your abilities.
